The
Town of Riverhead, through the cooperation of its Recreation Department,
Senior Citizens Services, and Youth Bureau, has begun the preparation of
its intergenerational programs. These are designed to encourage youth
and senior citizens to take part in activities together which benefit
both groups. Some of the programs being created include a community
intergenerational garden at the Senior Citizen Center, a sleepover and scavenger hunt
at the Museum of Natural History for grandparents and grandchildren and
educational boat tours in cooperation with Atlantis Marine World. There
will also be a computer class for seniors taught by high school students
at the Senior Citizens Center.
Monthly
events run on Saturday's at the Seniors Center with a variety of
activities, entertainment, and projects.
